DENISE
PHALAN-Denise
holds an MFA degree and Chairs the Yorktown High School Art Dept.,
where she is also an active member of the faculty. She works in
both oils and pastels, creating landscapes and large dramatic still
lifes. Phalan,
a nationally recognized artist, interprets the beauty of the natural
world around her. John Winslow described her color as lush
and this color combined with her use of light make these miniatures
appear as if they were precious gems on display. Originally from
New York City, Phalan has traveled extensively throughout the US,
Europe and Latin America, and now resides in Virginia. Her paintings
hang in such collections as those of the American Embassy in Ecuador
and the Governors Mansion in the Panama Canal Zone. She earned
the BA degree in Fine Art from the College of Mount Saint Vincent
in Riverdale, New York and the MFA degree from The Catholic University
of America in Washington, DC. She is presently a member of the faculty
in the graduate art program of Virginia Commonwealth University
and Chairman of the Visual Arts Department of an Arlington high
school. Her awards and honors include most recently, a fellowship
for painting at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York.
