“Reunion” showcases the reuniting of two long time work friends through their passion for creating art. Since both artists retired from the medical field, their paths crossed only occasionally. A lunch with a group of friends opened the way for exchanging artistic experiences, and the opportunity for George to join the gallery. The decision to have a joint show was to bring together many former work colleagues and art friends, and introduce them to the Loft Gallery and the town of Occoquan.
George Jones III – George began the craft of woodturning 14 years ago. Since then he has studied with a number of internationally renowned wood artists, and for six consecutive years studied at the Arrowmount School of the Arts in Gatlinburg, TN. Exposure to artists working in other media at the school has allowed George to develop a unique perspective by incorporating some of these techniques in his work. Each of the artist’s pieces is unique, from bowls to wall art and tell a story. It is his hope that the love and fulfillment from creating each piece is apparent and brings enjoyment to those who see them. George became a member of the American Association of Woodturners and Capital Area Woodturners in 2002, and is a current board member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 227.
Barbara Sullivan – Barb began her painting career 24 years ago taking a class at the suggestion of her mother-in-law, an accomplished watercolorist. She has been studying ever since, covering various media and techniques. Her career in clinical laboratory science and global health, provided a wonderful opportunity to live and travel abroad, providing a wealth of reference material reflected in her work. Barb was juried into the Potomac Valley Watercolorists in 2003, Workhouse Artist Association in 2011, and The Loft Gallery in 2015. Watercolor is her preferred medium, but she also works in acrylic, pastel, and collage. Her work is published in Artistic Touch 5, Potomac Valley Watercolorists - Celebrating 40 Years, Artistic Touch 6, and has written two Swipe File articles for Watercolor Magazine.
